This half-day walk is ideal for those who have already explored Budapest’s major sights and are seeking unique, off-the-beaten-path locations with lot of history away from mainstream tourists. It’s suited only for adventurers accustomed to uphill walks and plenty of stairs.
We’ll meet in front of the Central Market, cross the city’s most stunning suspension bridge—the Liberty Bridge—and, on the Buda side, catch a glimpse of the iconic Gellért Bath, adorned with ceramic tiles and vibrant stained glass windows.
At the foot of Gellért Hill lies a hidden treasure—the Pauline Monastery and its cave church. We’ll explore this unique church, uncover its fascinating history, and take in breathtaking views of the river from a nearby lookout point.
We’ll ride the tram along the scenic Danube line heading north, peeking in to the Lukács Baths—a beloved spot where locals and artists gather daily to heal, swim, and socialize. Wander through the picturesque garden of the bath before ascending one of the most charming streets in the Buda Hills to reach an Ottoman dervish tomb. During the Middle Ages, Hungary was part of the Ottoman Empire, and this site remains the northernmost Muslim pilgrimage destination in Europe, featuring beautiful rose gardens, lot of history and a stunning panorama over Budapest.
You can enjoy a rest and a cup of tea in the visitor center before descending to town to conquer the Buda Castle District. After a brief tram ride, you’ll ascend to the Buda Castle District through the lane once used by besieging armies, stroll along the bastions of the city wall, and uncover fascinating stories about the people who once lived here. Navigating through the civic town, you’ll arrive at a medieval Jewish synagogue nestled in a cobblestone street.
Your tour concludes in the heart of the Buda Castle District at the Fisherman’s Bastion and Matthias Church, offering stunning photo opportunities of the Pest side.
